College Plans Developing

May 29, 2017

We went to Thogoto Teachers College last week on Friday to get more information on College Admissions, but the lady in charge was not there, so we went back today. From the information we received earlier regarding the tuition fees, we got the feeling the fees were too high. We decided to have a face to face meeting, so they could break down the fees for us. We’re glad we went because things turned out to be quite different than we earlier thought. The amount they had mentioned of KSHS 74,000 was for the whole year, and not per term. That means fees per term would be around KSHS 24,700 (USD 239) per student for those students applying for an in-service course for 2 years or, full time students. This course would be obtainable for 2 more of our girls who each had C grades. They will train to be primary teachers who upon completion of the academic requirements, will be qualified to teach from grade 1 to 8

The remaining girls will attend school for 3 weeks in a term which would cost KSHS 11,900 (USD 115). They cannot be full-time students and will only attend college during the school holidays. After schools open, they would be required to leave the college. They can get teaching practice where they can get training until the schools close again. They will start at Certificate Level and train for Early Childhood Education. They can move onto Diploma later. They will teach children in grade 1 to 3. The course runs for 2 years.
We received admission letters today. We also managed to get an additional sponsor for the girls this week. We still have 2 students needing scholarships for the teaching college which starts in August.

For 2 of the girls, we are still considering a Community Development course.

We are putting all the girls paper work together and obtaining their School Leaving Certificates and Form 4 Result Slips from Shiners School as we wait for scholarships to come through.
