Feeding Program Introduced to Improve Student Attendance
September 26, 2017
We spoke to one girl today; we have not been able to get in touch with the other 3, but we are told they are all well and still at their various schools for teaching practice. They start school at 8am and finish at 3:45pm. One girl tells us she is sometimes left to teach on her own, and the teacher stands at a distance. He only corrects her after the class is over if he notices a mistake. They have all learned to study a lot on their own because they need to be very well versed with the subjects they are teaching. They each teach up to 5 subjects in a day, in 4 to 5 different classes. They are considered just like the other teachers, the only thing they do not get is a salary.
The student numbers in her school has been very low, 10-15 students per classroom which usually holds up to 50 students at one time. She says the introduction of a feeding program is encouraging the students to come to school, and she hopes to see more students attend as time goes by. She is happy for the experience she is getting, and she passes her regards.
