300 Girls Meet Before Easter Holiday
April 2, 2018
We have had a good Easter week-end, and we are grateful. Despite the Easter holiday, we were requested to meet the Choice Club members at Kimuka School on Good Friday and again today to talk to the whole school before they close for the April holidays on the 6th of this month. The Club meetings are going very well; the girls are always eager for the lessons, and we find them eagerly waiting for us in the classroom. They are opening up and asking a lot of questions, a very interactive group all round.
Meeting the whole school today was very interesting. I spoke to a group of over 300 girls ranging from 13-19 years of age.
Today being a public holiday, we had a lot of time to talk with them. The teachers also gave me time alone with the girls, so they were free to ask any question they wanted in private. The school asked that we speak to them before school closes. .A lot happens during the school holidays, and so the school management felt a talk would be good to remind the girls how to conduct themselves during the school holiday period.
We talked to the girls on relationships, pregnancy, peer pressure, amongst other topics. We realize that many of the girls come from poor homes, and they are being sponsored by individuals who sometimes take advantage of them.
We took some goodies to the girls; they were very happy to receive an Easter treat. A big thank you to Valvisions Foundation from the girls!
We visited some schools and have settled on 2 that we think would benefit by having the Choice Club on site when schools open.
Our girls are all well. They will finish teaching practice this week and come to Thogoto next week.
