Kenya Mid-term Commences
June 18, 2018
All schools started their mid-term holiday on Saturday the 16th. Kimuka School invited me to talk again to the whole school as the girls got ready to go home for mid-term. I taught on the need to respect their parents, helping with chores at home, fostering healthy relationships, especially with the opposite sex, amongst other issues.
The school being church-based, we looked at what the Bible says in regard to children honoring their parents. We quoted some verses like:
Proverbs 23:22 ‘Listen to your father who gave you life and do not despise your mother when she is old.’
Proverbs 15:20 ‘A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.’
Deuteronomy 5:16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.’
The benefits of honoring parents are many, and those who don’t honor their parents bring grief to them.
We discussed the need to observe personal hygiene. Most students while at school do not have enough time for proper grooming, so I encouraged them to ensure that all the torn uniforms are stitched, hair is washed, and that they take care of the whole body.
In Kanjeru, we discussed the need to prepare for exams so there is no anxiety and panic during the exam-time. The need to get a good night’s sleep the night before an exam and to seek help in subjects one may be struggling with are crucial steps towards success. More effort should be put in subjects that are deemed hard, and the use of a time-table is an essential tool to help one study.
The Valvisions Foundation girls are all well; I spoke to them during the week, and they pass on their regards.
