Community Workshops

February 2014: Valvisions sponsored the first community workshop in Kapchorwa, Uganda. Here, secluded communities of the Sebei tribe continue to practice FGM as a coming-of-age ritual. Targeting the parents of teenage girls at risk of FGM, early marriage and child pregnancy, Valvisions proposed a collaborative effort with the village community of Kaplegep, in which Valvisions awarded several girls with high school scholarships and consistent mentorship through adolescence to adulthood. This program provides opportunities for the girls to experience the benefits of higher education, socialization outside their community, and inevitably, to become agents of social change within their community.
